How to improve visual storytelling using presentation techniques

Presentations are part of our academic and professional life. Either as a presenter or as an audience, we are facing presentations every time. A good presentation will always remain in our minds. A well-structured content, powerful visual aids, and excellent presentation skills can make your PowerPoint presentation designer a memorable and unique experience.

Here are some points to carry before your presentation. Sift through this!

  • Fix the message

As you sit calmly to prepare for your presentation, there would be a whole bunch of thoughts in your mind. Whenever a new idea comes, try to note it somewhere. Streamline these ideas according to the message that you want to convey. Try to move to your whole presentation at the pace of these messages. Starting with one message and deviating from that to end up in an utterly different idea is not the ideal way to deal with the content. Logically structure the content following the message you are trying to convey.

  • Classify the content

After writing down all the ideas, You need to classify them based on importance. Gather all the important data in one section and less important data in another. Use the latter for the Q and A sections. Plan as many questions that you are likely to get from the side of the audience. Prepare answers for those questions.

  • Know the audience

Make sure you know your audience. Know your audience beforehand to create your content accordingly. Use your language and also tone according to the nature of the audience. The way of presenting content before a professional set of people might be different from one to be presented in front of a friendly audience or your team. So always know your audience. Your topic selection, the language you use, and the examples you give to illustrate points, etc.. should be molded according to your audience. Think before including humor in a formal presentation. Negative jokes may ditch you. Also, if you know your audience, it will be easier for you to persuade them towards your goal.

  • Know the color psychology

Select a color according to the nature of your presentation. Using a handful of colors of your choice can trouble you. Follow a uniformity of colors in all the slides. Black is a definite and strong color that is often overlooked. Green will soothe the eyes of the audience. Blue is the most common background color for presentations. Purple can sometimes be mystical and emotional. Yellow and orange can draw the attention of the audience. Always think twice before adding red to your slides. Red is a complex color. Avoid using red in tables, charts, and small fonts.

  • Rehearse properly

Well! you have planned your slides systematically. But, nothing happens with very good content unless it is presented properly. Find time for rehearsals. Do as many rehearsals until you are fluent with the content. Also, prepare the answers to the Q and A sections. Self-doubt while clearing the doubts may draw negative impressions.
